Transfers: Bournemouth and Aston Villa keeping tabs on Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper

English Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Aston Villa are interested in Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper has developed immensely in the last few years. In fact, he is a homegrown Freiburg talent; he rose through the ranks from the academy teams to the second team, and then to the senior squad.

He has been the club's first-choice goalie for the last two years. Last season, he saved 64 percent of the shots he faced in the Bundesliga.

But despite spending his entire life in Freiburg, he wants to call time on his stay at the club this summer.

With just one year left on his contract, Atubolu has refused to sign an extension. Additionally, he has reportedly refused to train with his teammates for the start of pre-season to try to force a move.

Bournemouth and Aston Villa Emerge As Potential Destinations For Noah Atubolu.

According to Transfer Feed, Noah Atubolu has emerged as a transfer target for both clubs. Both sides have vacancies in their goalkeeper departments; Bournemouth needs a top second-choice goalie who can compete with Djordje Petrović, especially since they will play in Europe next season.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa could sell Emiliano Martínez to Juventus this summer, and they would need a solid replacement. Hull City an Spanish La Liga club Hull City are also believed to be interested in a transfer.

Atubolu could be an excellent fit, as he can pull off great saves, read the game well, and pass the ball effectively.

As of now, neither club has made an official offer for Atubolu, but that could change in a short time.

Can Noah Atubolu Play For Nigeria?

Noah Atubolu was born to a German mother and a Nigerian father, but he has chosen to play for Germany. He represented Germany across all youth levels, but he has not had the opportunity to play for Die Mannschaft yet.

He was called up to the German squad in October 2025 as a replacement for Oliver Baumann, but he was not used.

So, as long as he has not played a competitive match for Germany, he is still eligible to represent Nigeria, provided he completes a one-time switch of national association with FIFA.

Germany still has some top goalkeepers ahead of Atubolu in the hierarchy. Perhaps, if he starts playing for a bigger club, he might finally become a regular with the German national team.
