The biggest names in African movies and television gathered at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), which came to a close in Lagos.

The ceremony held to recognise actors, filmmakers, and digital creators across Africa for outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry was a night defined by elite fashion statements and a convergence of veterans and newcomers.
My Father’s Shadow dominated the night, while Linda Ejiofor won the double awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Lead Actress on an extraordinary night and a historic changing of the guard at the podium with Bovi and Nomzamo Mbatha hosting after over a decade of IK Osakioduwa anchoring the event.
My Father’s Shadow owns the Night
When the evening ended, one title had been called more times than any other. My Father’s Shadow — produced by Akinola Davies Jr and Fumbi Ogunbanwo was crowned Best Movie at the 12th AMVCA, with the attendees applauding the standout cinematic experience of the year in review.
Akinola Davies Jr. took Best Director for his masterful work on the film, the film also claimed Best Writing (Movie) for its screenplay, and the score composers Duval Timothy and CJ Mirra won Best Score/Music for the same production.
Notably, Davies and his brother Wale also recently claimed the prestigious Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer award at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards — making My Father’s Shadow one of the most decorated African films of the year on both sides of the Atlantic.
Linda Ejiofor’s Historic Double
The individual story of the night belonged to Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman. In a historic double victory, Linda Ejiofor won Best Actress for her powerful lead performance in The Serpent’s Gift, triumphing over strong contenders including Bimbo Akintola, Genoveva Umeh, Sola Sobowale, and Scarlet Gomez — marking her second award of the night, having earlier won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Herd.
The 12th edition marked a historic transition in the show’s presentation — for the first time in over a decade, the legendary IK Osakioduwa passed the baton, with Bovi Ugboma, the Nigerian comedy heavyweight known for his razor-sharp wit, taking over hosting duties.
Stars like Omowunmi Dada, Uzor Arukwe, Lateef Adedimeji, Osas Ighodaro and Stan Nze dazzled in elaborate regalia under the Cultural Night theme “Honouring Craft, Celebrating Culture.”
