Atletico Madrid eye Super Eagles striker as Julian Alvarez’s replacement amid Arsenal links

Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid are mulling over a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Los Rojiblancos face an uncertain window, as they could lose one of their two top strikers—Julián Alvarez or Alexander Sørloth.

While Alvarez has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, reports suggest that AtlĂ©tico are also looking to offload Sørloth amid interest from Fenerbahçe, Juventus, and several clubs in the lucrative Saudi Pro League. Regardless of which striker departs, Los Rojiblancos are assured of a premium payday.

Meanwhile, the club has already begun planning for the contingency of a striker leaving.

According to Turkiye Today, Atleti have identified Osimhen as a priority target for the summer market.

Having recently signed his compatriot Ademola Lookman — who has enjoyed a prolific start to life in Spain — the club believes that adding Osimhen would provide a massive boost to their attacking frontline.

Hefty Price Tag & Competition from Barcelona: Can Atletico Madrid Land Osimhen?

A recent report by Soccernet.ng revealed that Barcelona are also eyeing Victor Osimhen as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Consequently, securing his signature will be no easy task for Atletico Madrid.

Los Rojiblancos will have to compete with a rival that possesses greater stature and global clout. Also, Barcelona would offer a more guaranteed path to silverware than Atletico.

Meanwhile, according to TĂĽrkiye Today, Galatasaray will demand a fee in the region of €140 million before sanctioning Osimhen's departure.

Having only just paid €75 million to acquire him from Napoli last summer, the Turkish giants are determined to maximize their profit on any potential sale.

While Atletico have spent heavily in recent years, meeting such financial demands would likely require selling one of their current star strikers.

Even then, a €140 million fee would shatter the club's transfer record, and it remains unclear if they are willing to push that far.

Nonetheless, the situation should become clearer by the summer. One thing is certain: prising Osimhen away from Galatasaray will be a tough challenge.
