Attempts to resolve the ongoing legal battle between 960 Music Group and Aristokrat Records, centred on the ownership of Burna Boy’s early music catalogue, were delayed again yesterday at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The criminal case, which alleges fraudulent conversion and breach of fiduciary duty against Aristokrat Records founder Piriye Isokrari, was adjourned to April 20, 2025, after the defendant failed to appear in court.
The defendant’s absence has once again stalled proceedings in a case that has drawn attention within the Nigerian music industry. 960 Music Group, which invested in Aristokrat Records, initiated legal action after alleging that the sale of Burna Boy’s historical catalogue to his current imprint, Spaceship Music, was conducted without their knowledge or consent.
Sources close to the matter indicate growing frustration over the repeated delays, which have characterised the legal process. The criminal charges, filed by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), accuse Isokrari of diverting the proceeds from the multi-million dollar sale away from the company’s official accounts, thereby defrauding 960 Music Group.
The case was first called in December 2025 and adjourned until February 10, 2026. On both occasions, the defendant or any of his representatives appeared in court. Yesterday’s adjournment to April 20, 2025, means further delay in a case that could redefine the music business and investments.
