The circumstances surrounding the death of fast-rising Fuji singer Destiny Boy are becoming clearer after his mother, Saidat Adeshina, spoke about what happened to the singer that caused his death.
Saidat revealed that her son had been battling a serious illness for almost two years before he died on January 18, 2025. She said the problem started during preparations for the naming ceremony of his first child, when he suddenly began having seizures.
“He started having seizures at that time,” she said. The family quickly looked for help everywhere they could, including hospitals, churches, and traditional healers. They chose not to tell the public because Destiny Boy was becoming famous and they wanted to protect his career.
Saidat explained that her son was later introduced to an Ifa priest, Edun Ifayomi, whom Destiny Boy saw as a father figure. According to her, the priest supported the family, helped with hospital bills, and even provided a cow for the singer’s child’s naming ceremony.
She said the illness, known as “Oku Oru,” caused Destiny Boy to become stiff during attacks, similar to epilepsy, and left him confused afterward. Although there were times when he seemed better, the sickness never fully went away.
‘Oku Oru’ is a health issue, traditionally used to explain sleep-related disturbances like nocturnal seizures, sleep paralysis, or nightmares during sleep.
“At one point, he gave me a soap to bathe him with, and he felt better for a while,” she said, adding that Destiny preferred going to Ifayomi because he felt comfortable around him.
Saidat also described what happened in the days leading up to her son’s death. She said that after a trip to Ayetoro, Destiny Boy was taken to Ifayomi’s house for treatment. Because she could not leave her shop immediately, she stayed in touch by phone and was first told that he was fine. A few days later, however, his condition suddenly became worse.
“When they called and said the seizures had started again, I rushed there,” she said. “They tried to help him, but it didn’t work, so they took him to the hospital. By the time I got there, they told me he had died.”
She strongly denied rumors that her son was involved in money rituals or drugs, saying clearly that Destiny Boy died due to health issues.
