Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has broken his silence after undergoing surgery on his fractured right forearm in Istanbul on Monday, Afrik-Foot reports.
The Super Eagles striker has offered Galatasaray a strong message of belief at a time when the Turkish giants face a defining period in the title race.
The Nigerian forward suffered a fractured right forearm during a UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool and required immediate medical attention. The operation, carried out by club doctor Yener İnce, was described as successful, with a plate attached to his arm before it was placed in a splint.
Despite the seriousness of the injury, Osimhen’s first reaction showed determination and leadership. Speaking to club officials who visited him in hospital, he said:
“We will be champions, my president.”
That message was directed at Galatasaray president Dursun Ă–zbek, who later reassured supporters about the player’s condition.
He told the press:
“Osimhen is perfectly healthy. He underwent a very successful surgery. God willing, he will return to the field as soon as possible.”
The striker is expected to be discharged less than 24 hours after the procedure, with his recovery set to be monitored daily.
Club doctor İnce confirmed:
“Another one of our players, Victor Osimhen, underwent a successful operation today. His condition will be monitored daily, and our medical team will do everything necessary to ensure his return to the pitch as soon as possible. Updates will be shared with the public by our club throughout the process.”
Victor Osimhen: Race against time for a crucial return
Osimhen is now expected to be out for around five weeks, meaning he will likely miss key league games against Trabzonspor, Göztepe, Kocaelispor and Gençlerbirliği. There is, however, growing hope that he could return in time for the decisive derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26.
His absence comes at a delicate moment in the title race. Galatasaray currently hold a narrow four-point lead over Fenerbahçe, meaning any slip-ups could quickly change the picture.
Osimhen has been central to the club's campaign, scoring 12 league goals and 19 in all competitions. Without him, coach Okan Buruk’s side may struggle to maintain their attacking edge, even with experienced forwards like Mauro Icardi and Leroy Sane available.
The coming weeks could therefore define Galatasaray’s season. If they can hold their advantage until Osimhen returns, potentially for the derby, it could give them the decisive boost needed to secure the title. If not, his absence may prove to be the turning point in one of the most tightly contested races in recent years.
