Three Super Eagles players who stood out in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Iran

The Super Eagles of Nigeria put on a brilliant show at the Antalya Stadium in Turkiye, defeating the Islamic Republic of Iran, Soccernet.ng reports.

Moses Simon broke the deadlock inside seven minutes, burying the ball at the near post before Akor Adams doubled the lead a few minutes after the restart.

Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for Iran, profiting from a poorly-defended corner-kick to secure a consolation for Amir Ghalenoei's side.

Following the victory, Soccernet.ng highlights three Super Eagles players who stood out in the win over Iran.

Three Super Eagles players who stood out in Nigeria's win over Iran

1. Alex Iwobi

The Fulham midfielder continued from where he stopped at the AFCON 2025, picking up the ball in tight spaces and piercing through the Iranian defence with brilliant passes.

The 29-year-old was the player with the most line-breaking passes in Morocco, and yesterday, his technical ability was on display again, with one of his attempts leading to Akor Adams' goal.

Iwobi is becoming a consistent creative outlet for Nigeria in Eric Chelle's diamond setup, and had a good outing last night.

2. Ademola Lookman

The Atletico Madrid forward played at the top of Eric Chelle's diamond, slightly into the number ten role, and looked to create chances for the team, rather than putting the ball into the back of the net himself.

Lookman set up Nigeria's second goal against Iran, playing Akor Adams in. He was taken off later in the game as Nigeria shored up for the win, but in Victor Osimhen's absence, Lookman took up the responsibility of finding the goal for the Super Eagles.

3. Akor Adams

Since making his debut for Nigeria in October 2025, Adams has been paired with Victor Osimhen in Nigeria's attack, playing the supporting role while the Galatasaray striker leads the line.

Akor Adams had a somewhat shaky start against Iran, but he grew into the sole striker role and scored a brilliant dink at the start of the second half before he was replaced by Paul Onuachu later in the game.
