When the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations dropped on Sunday, most conversations centred on the films and the household names. But look closer at the list and a different story emerges, eleven individuals who are not just nominated, but nominated more than once, across different films and different categories.
Lateef Adedimeji leads the conversation with three nominations including Best Lead Actor, and Best Supporting Actor twice across different productions, confirming what the industry already knows: he is the one of the most consistently deployed dramatic talent in Nollywood right now.
But he is not alone.
Adeola Thelma Bamgboye earned three nominations in Best Make-up for Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, Abanisete, and Labake Olododo, the most individual nominations of anyone on this list. Cinematographer Emmanuel Igbekele shot three of this AMVCA cycle’s biggest films including The Herd, The Serpent’s Gift, and Gingerrr, and he eceived a Best Cinematography nomination for each.
Tolu Obanro composed and mixed two nominated films; Gingerrr and The Party, earning three nominations across Best Score Music and Best Sound Design. Sound design rarely gets its flowers and Tolu Obanro is making the case for why it should.
Linda Ejiofor is nominated for both Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress across separate films and the highly-respected Sola Sobowale achieves the same feat, appearing in Best Supporting Actress and Best Lead Actress categories. Bisola Aiyeola earns nominations as both a performer and producer. Uzor Arukwe and Femi Branch both appear in lead and supporting categories simultaneously.
Behind the camera, Vaughan Phillips earned two Best Sound Design nominations for Ben Made It and Sebata. Abdalla Ezyan secured two Best Indigenous Language nominations from North Africa for different films in the same cycle. AMVCA 12 is revealing the people who are quietly holding the industry together and it is long past time their names were known.
The 12th AMVCA ceremony takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
