Editi Effiong, the acclaimed writer and producer behind the 2023 global hit film ‘The Black Book,’ has officially announced a sequel titled ‘The Black Book: Old Scores.’

The announcement, made via Effiong’s X account, reveals a significant partnership with Emmy Award-winning ‘Severance’ producer Nicky Weinstock, who joins the team as a producer.

Effiong disclosed that he has dedicated the past two years to developing the script, co-written with Bunmi Ajakaiye, and securing substantial funding for what he describes as a “historic production.”

With support from Adino Capital, Mango Tree, and Blooming Caravan, Effiong is confident that ‘Old Scores’ will not only meet but surpass the high standards set by its predecessor, which achieved global success, ranking in the top 10 in over 69 countries on Netflix and garnering more than 20 million views.

Richard Mofe-Damijo is set to reprise his role as Paul Edima, continuing his fight against systemic corruption. The sequel promises a brand new story, exploring “deeper themes of justice, redemption, and social unrest in contemporary Nigeria,” while introducing a diverse cast of new characters from Nigeria, the UK, the US, and Japan.

The production boasts a large-scale effort with a 300-member Nigerian and international crew. While anticipation builds, the release date for ‘The Black Book: Old Scores’ is yet to be announced.
