Fido has publicly apologised after months of controversy and online backlash that followed his sudden rise to fame.

The singer, born Awosika Olayemi, shared an emotional message on X on February 23, 2026, admitting that he made mistakes while adjusting to stardom.

“There’s no easy way to write this, so I’ll just say it plainly. I messed up,” he wrote.

Fido explained that his success happened very quickly and he was not fully prepared for the pressure that came with it.

“Stardom came into my life quickly. One minute I was dreaming about it, the next minute I was living it. And while the world was watching me grow, I was still trying to understand who I was inside that growth,” he said.

The apology comes months after he accused his former label, Inner Circle Entertainment, of financial mismanagement. In August 2025, he claimed the label withheld 95 percent of a $20,000 advance for his hit song Awolowo, saying he received only about N1.5 million. He also alleged that he was denied access to financial records and that the label lacked transparency.

Earlier, he sparked debate when he said no one discovered him and that he built his career by himself with God’s guidance. Some people felt the comment dismissed those who supported him at the beginning of his journey.

Fido was also involved in online fan clashes, especially between supporters of Wizkid and Davido. During a live session, he used the phrase “Osakpolor FC,” which many believed was aimed at Davido’s fanbase, 30BG. The comment led to heavy criticism and trolling on social media.

In his latest statement, Fido admitted that ego, excitement and inexperience influenced some of his actions.

“Along the way, I made mistakes. I said things that should never have been said. I allowed ego, excitement and inexperience to influence some of my decisions. That’s not who I want to be. And it’s not who I’m becoming,” he wrote.

He apologised to his fans, colleagues and the wider Afrobeats community.

“To my fans — the ones who stream the music, defend me, pray for me and believe in me — I am sorry,” he said. “To the global Afrobeats community, the legends and godfathers who opened these doors before me, my colleagues and everyone who felt disappointed by my words or actions, I apologise. Truly.”

Despite the controversies, Fido remains one of Nigeria’s most streamed artists. His songs ‘Awolowo’ and ‘Joy Is Coming’ are both in the top 10 most streamed songs on Spotify Nigeria of all time, ranking at number three and number six respectively.

In 2025, his label Oosha Records also announced a partnership with global music company EMPIRE, marking a new phase in his career.

Fido said he has chosen to reflect and grow from the experience. He promised fans that his upcoming music will show a more mature and grateful version of himself. “This is growth. This is maturity. This is me doing better,” he wrote. “It’s game time again.”
