Rapper and activist Falz has made a bold claim about his latest album “The Feast” by calling it his most conscious work to date, even more so than his acclaimed 2019 project “Moral Instruction.”

In a recent interview with NET NG, the artist explained that while “The Feast” may not sound as obviously political as his previous work, it carries deeper meaning for those willing to listen carefully.

“I think this is probably my most conscious work yet,” Falz said about his sixth studio album, released on May 30th featuring collaborations with Odumodublvck, Dotti the Deity, and Qing Madi. “You don’t see it on the face of it, but when you listen, when you listen deep, you’d realize that.”

The rapper acknowledged that many fans would immediately think of “Moral Instruction” when discussing his most conscious work, but explained the key difference in his approach. “A lot of people will mention Moral Instruction because of the mood, the method, the approach that I took with that project,” he said. “The approach was very head on, very confrontational, very direct. Here it’s more subliminal, it’s more subtle.”

According to Falz, this subtlety is intentional and requires active engagement from listeners. “You have to pick up on it. You have to listen deep. You have to be able to interpret some figurative expressions and metaphors, and that’s why on the face of it, you might not clock it. But when you listen deep, you clock it.”

The central message of “The Feast,” Falz explains, revolves around African authenticity and collective progress. “The importance of us being the most authentic version of ourselves as Africans and sticking to that and how this really is the only way that we can progress as a people,” he said.

The album title itself carries symbolic weight, representing unity and shared growth. “That’s why it’s the feast because it’s us feasting together. It’s us coming together as a people to be able to achieve our greatest potential,” the rapper explained.

But perhaps the most revealing aspect of Falz’s intentionality comes in his detailed breakdown of the album’s name as an acronym. “Even in the name feast, each letter is symbolic,” he revealed.

According to Falz, F represents Flavors – “all the different flavors of us.” E stands for Expressions, A symbolizes Ancestry, S represents Stories, and T stands for Truth.

“It’s all very intentional. It’s all very strategic, everything, all the different elements of the album as they come together. And that’s why I say it’s my most conscious work yet,” Falz concluded.

The artist emphasized that while the messaging may be wrapped differently than his previous work, the consciousness remains at the core. Songs like “No Less” which samples Fuji pioneer Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, and tracks featuring social commentary are woven throughout the project, though delivered through what Falz calls a more mature artistic approach.
