Kim Kardashian may be trading in her SKIMS for stilettos and scheming—she’s in talks to play the villain in Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action Bratz movie.

Following the record-breaking success of Barbie, which raked in $1.44 billion in 2023, Hollywood is racing to breathe cinematic life into more childhood toy brands. Amazon MGM emerged victorious in a heated bidding war for the rights to Bratz, with hopes the edgy fashion doll franchise can rival the pink-powered phenomenon.

Details about the film’s plot and full cast remain under wraps, but the creative team is already taking shape. Charlie Polinger and Lucy McKendrick are penning the script, while production will be spearheaded by Erik Feig and Julia Hammer of Picturestart, alongside Kardashian, Jason Larian, and Jasmin Larian of MGA Entertainment. MGA CEO Isaac Larian will serve as executive producer.

First launched in 2001, Bratz dolls quickly became pop culture icons with their bold fashion and diverse characters, selling over 200 million units worldwide. Amazon MGM claims the brand also boasts the highest social media engagement of any toy franchise today.

However, turning Bratz into box-office gold won’t be without its challenges. A 2007 live-action adaptation by Lionsgate was a critical and commercial misfire, and the franchise has since seen life mostly through animated series and video games.

Kardashian, best known for her reality TV empire and entrepreneurial ventures, has recently been expanding her acting résumé. She appeared in American Horror Story alongside Emma Roberts, voiced characters in two PAW Patrol films, and is set to star in Netflix’s The Fifth Wheel, directed by Eva Longoria. She’ll also appear in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming legal drama All Is Fair.
