Asake has finally addressed the transformation that has been making waves across social media. Last month when dropping a snippet of a new song, the singer debuted a striking new look with face tattoos and a much shorter hairstyle than his signature dreadlocks.

At the 2025 Grammy Awards red carpet, Asake shed light on the inspiration behind his dramatic change. The star explained that his transformation is rooted in a desire for self-expression and comfort.

“I just want to feel comfortable in my skin,” Asake shared. “This look is a personal choice, and it might change at any time. This is how I feel now. I love to feel good about my look, and I do things that feel right for me.”

The singer also emphasized that his appearance isn’t about anyone else’s opinion. “This is not about anybody. This is how I feel right now. I might wake up tomorrow, and you won’t see any tattoos on my face,” he added with a laugh.

Despite the buzz around his new look, Asake remained humble about his monumental achievement as a 2025 Grammy nominee as it’s his second time being nominated after his 2024 nomination. He was Nominated for ‘Best African Music Performance‘ for his hit song “MMS” with Wizkid, Asake expressed deep gratitude for the recognition. He also gave a shoutout to Wizkid for being a part of the song.

“I feel blessed,” he said. “I know so many people aspire to this, so for me to be among those chosen, I’m truly honored.” Asake said

Asake also explained the inspiration behind MMS, saying, “It’s just me telling my story, from coming from the grass to grace. It’s all about giving thanks to God.”

Although Asake didn’t take home the Grammy in his category, losing to fellow Nigerian artist Tems, who went home with the award.
