Saint-Etienne’s move for Dessers goes off the rails as French side encounters financial constraints

A move away from Rangers for Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, is growing faint as a potential suitor has financial problems in making a bid, Soccernet.ng reports.

Since the start of last season, the ex-Cremonese man has been leading the line at Ibrox, but his proficiency in front of goal has largely been a story of highs and lows. On some days, the Nigerian was deadly efficient, and on other days, he simply didn’t know where the goal was.

Since November 10, Dessers has started just one game for Philippe Clement’s side, losing his place in the starting lineup to Moroccan U-23 striker, Hamza Igamane, who has scored seven goals in nine starts for the Gers.

While Rangers are looking to add another striker to the fold, they would be willing to let Dessers go if a suitable offer comes in.

French Ligue 1 side, AS Saint-Etienne are keen on the services of the former Feyenoord striker, but it is unknown if the striker will want to join a relegation-threatened side.

However, the chances of a deal being struck between Rangers and the French side for Dessers have reduced drastically. As per Rangers News, an exit for the Belgium-born Nigerian will only be possible if the French club frees up wages elsewhere in their squad this January.

According to Foot 365, Dessers is one of six players being targeted by Saint Etienne for a move this month as they look to avoid demotion to the second tier of French Football. Due to their financial constraints, the ten-time Ligue 1 champions have to watch their spending and as such, have prioritized the signing of Rennes midfielder, Baptiste Santamaria on a loan deal, with the option to buy included.

Dessers is 5th amongst Rangers’s top earners, and might need to consider a wage-cut if he’ll seek playing time with AS Saint-Etienne.
