Ligue 1: Super Eagles flying winger Moses Simon makes Nantes contract extension decision

The Nigeria international has been one of the Canaries’ best players this season

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has no plan to extend his current contract with Nantes, Soccernet.ng reports.

Simon is tied to the Canaries until June 2024, but the tricky attacker is not expected to renew his contract.

The 28-year-old forward has enjoyed a blistering start to the 2023/24 campaign, contributing two goals and four assists in six Ligue 1 games for Nantes.

Still, according to the French publication L’Équipe (via Sport.fr), Nantes have not initiated negotiations to extend Simon’s contract beyond 2024.

Nantes’ inaction regarding the situation has reportedly fueled rumours that the former KAA Gent ace could leave the club as a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Simon joined Nantes initially on a season-long loan deal in 2019 from Spanish side Levante. Nantes moved to make the transfer permanent on July 1, 2020, for €5 million.

It is money well spent, as Simon has scored 28 goals and added 30 assists in 152 games for Nantes – the most he has managed for any claim in his career.

Simon also played a key role as Nantes overcame all opposition on their way to winning the Coupe de France in 2022.

The former AS Trencin ace has also seen his market value rise to €8 million (Transfermarkt).

Simon will, however, want to stay focused on helping Nantes stay out of league trouble for the rest of the season.

Nantes started the campaign poorly, but the club has managed to put together victories over their last two games to rise to 11th on the Ligue 1 table.
