Samuel Chukwueze: AC Milan boss names two areas of improvement for Super Eagles winger ahead of Verona clash

The former Villarreal winger is one of the Rossoneri’s most celebrated arrivals this summer, but he is yet to get his season going

As AC Milan gear up for their Serie A showdown with Hellas Verona today, head coach Stefano Pioli has issued a call to Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, urging him to adapt and refine his game, Soccernet.ng reports.

Despite expressing contentment with Chukwueze’s performance during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Newcastle United, Pioli has made it clear that he expects more from the talented import from Nigeria.

Chukwueze, who recently joined the Rossoneri from La Liga’s Villarreal, received his first start midweek against Newcastle but failed to make a significant impact, resulting in his substitution for Christian Pulisic after just 61 minutes.

The match ended in a goalless draw for AC Milan against the English Premier League side.

In his five appearances across all competitions for AC Milan, the 24-year-old has yet to score a goal or record an assist.

Pioli commented on the team’s overall performance, shedding light on Chukwueze’s contribution and highlighting the areas where he expects the Nigerian winger to enhance his game.

“I want Samu to be very open; he is used to cutting inside the pitch,” Pioli told the media on Friday.

“He also needs to find the timing and movements, but he did well. I’m satisfied with his performance, and he will grow.

“The idea in Newcastle’s first half was to target a full-back with another pass. In the first half, we didn’t make much use of him, and then I put Pulisic on. But we’re satisfied with his (Chukwueze’s) performance.”

AC Milan will trade tackles with Hellas Verona in a Serie A fixture on Saturday.
