For days, young Nigerians have taken to the streets to seek justice for Mohbad, and Khaid is contributing his quota as his latest single, ‘Forever,’ is a tribute to Mohbad, who passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
The single, released on Friday, September 22, 2023, tells Mohbad’s story from Khaid’s point of view as he starts the single with a voice recording of the late artiste thanking fans for ‘showing up for him’.
In a chat with Netng, Khaid’s management revealed that Mohbad’s immediate family will receive 100% royalties from the song.
“Forever is a tribute song to Mohbad. It being a tribute song, we just decided to dedicate the royalties to his family.” His manager added that although both artistes were not very close, Mohbad and Khaid had formed a bond after the former had offered him a place to stay after they missed their flights to their respective shows.
Khaid was going to a show in Enugu when they first met. In ‘Forever,’ he said, “Remembering missing our flight, you booked a room, say make I sleep for bed, you no let me sleep for table.”
Since Mohbad’s passing, clips of the rising star getting harassed by members of his former record label, Marlian Records, have been making rounds around social media. With Nigerians pressing the authorities for justice, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for autopsy.
Whichever way the results turn out to be, most Nigerians believe that his bullies should stand a day in court for assaulting him during his lifetime.
Bella Shmurda, Mohbad’s friend and music artiste, tweeted, ‘Delayed justice is injustice. Bring out those who oppressed and maltreated the hell out of him when he was alive that’s the goal. Autopsy or not it does not concern me. Unless our government doesn’t have feelings.’
At 8:50 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023, the Lagos State police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the autopsy has been concluded, with results to be revealed soon.
