Nollywood actor Obinna Nwafor popularly known as Saint Obi has passed on. He was 57.Saint Obi

Although details about his demise are still sketchy as none of his colleagues and family have been able to confirm the report, Netng gathered that he died after a protracted illness.

Nwafor who had his big break in Nollywood with Opa Williams’ ‘Without Love’ was one of the actors famous for playing romantic roles in the 1990s.

Born November 1965, Saint Obi studied Theatre Arts at the University of Jos in Plateau state.

While many know him as a lover boy in 90s Nollywood movies, Saint Obi also played more roles as one of the bad guys of Nollywood. An action flick in the 90s without Saint Obi on the poster may likely not draw the attention of viewers who would buy such movie. He was a prominent bad guy Nigerians love to see in movies.

His rare display of brilliance when acting the role of a bad guy or detective in movies like ‘State of emergency’, ‘Sakobi’, ‘Execuive Crime’ among many others made him stand out among his peers during his hay days. It was what he loved doing and it was evident in the way he perfectly played the role. If he didn’t become an actor in 1996 after featuring in a TV commercial for Peugeot, Saint Obi said he could have taken to crime.

“The other key factor that made me become an actor was to stay away from crime and to become a rich man,” he said in an interview in 2016.
