BHM Marks 20th Anniversary With Dual Female Leadership Appointments

Twenty years after it was founded in Lagos, BHM Holdings has appointed two women to lead its principal communications operating companies.

Njideka Akabogu will become Managing Director of ID Africa, while Iretomiwa Akintunde-Johnson will become Managing Director of BHM. Both appointments take effect on 1 January 2027.

The appointments are the result of long internal careers rather than external executive recruitment. Akintunde-Johnson joined BHM as an associate consultant in 2018. Akabogu joined ID Africa as a community manager in 2016.

Both progressed through multiple operating and leadership roles before becoming regional managers for West and East Africa respectively.

“This is not a symbolic announcement,” Ayeni said. “Iretomiwa and Njideka earned these roles through years of performance, learning, leadership and service to clients and colleagues.”

Akintunde-Johnson’s background spans law, corporate communications, media, issues management and research. Akabogu’s experience covers digital media, editorial leadership, content strategy, public relations and pan-African market development.

Their appointments reflect BHM Holdings’ intention to develop executive leadership internally and create visible pathways from entry- and mid-level roles to the highest operating positions in the group.

“The strongest institutions do not merely recruit leaders,” Ayeni said. “They identify potential early, give people consequential responsibilities and allow them to grow through real work.”
