“Snoop Dogg” Biopic Casts D’Angelo & Angie Stone’s Son SwayvoTwain as The Notorious B.I.G.

Universal Pictures’ upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic has found its Biggie. SwayvoTwain, the son of R&B legends D’Angelo and the late Angie Stone, has been cast as Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G., in Snoop, the Craig Brewer-directed film chronicling the life and rise of the West Coast rap icon.

The role marks SwayvoTwain’s first major film appearance. Born Michael D’Angelo Archer II, he has largely built his career as a recording artist and songwriter, releasing tracks including “Ms. Angie’s Son” and “DoveSoar.” With both parents celebrated for their contributions to R&B and soul, his casting adds another intriguing musical connection to the project.

Biggie’s inclusion also hints at how deeply the film will explore the complicated relationships surrounding Snoop during hip-hop’s turbulent 1990s era.

Snoop and Biggie rose to prominence on opposite coasts as tensions between Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records helped fuel one of hip-hop’s most infamous rivalries. Yet their personal relationship was more nuanced than the East Coast-West Coast conflict often suggested. The two reportedly shared mutual respect despite the increasingly dangerous tensions surrounding their respective camps.

SwayvoTwain joins an expanding cast that is bringing Snoop’s Death Row era to life. Bentley Green will portray Snoop’s cousin RBX, an early Death Row artist, while Los Angeles rapper G Perico will play Big Reecie Cup, a figure connected to Snoop’s Long Beach roots.

Jonathan Daviss is set to lead the film as Snoop Dogg, with Camron Jones portraying Tupac Shakur and Myles Bullock Be playing Dr. Dre. Lauren London will portray Snoop’s late mother, Beverly Tate.

With the cast continuing to take shape, Snoop appears poised to spend significant time exploring the people and events surrounding the rapper’s explosive rise in the 1990s. That includes his transformative years at Death Row Records alongside Dr. Dre and Tupac, as well as his proximity to the rivalry that forever changed hip-hop.

Craig Brewer is directing Snoop from a rewritten screenplay originally penned by Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole. Snoop Dogg is producing alongside Imagine Entertainment and Death Row Pictures, with music from his catalog expected to feature prominently throughout the film.

Universal Pictures has scheduled Snoop for a theatrical release on August 6, 2027.
