Super Eagles winger Philip Otele could spark a transfer battle this summer, with clubs from England and Italy reportedly keen to secure his signature, Soccernet.ng reports.
The versatile 27-year-old attacker spent last season on loan at German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV before returning to his parent club, Basel, at the conclusion of the campaign.
With two years remaining on his contract, Otele has returned to Basel and featured regularly in their pre-season friendlies.
Last week, reports emerged that Serie A side Lecce had expressed interest in acquiring him, though they have yet to reach an agreement with Basel.
Otele could prove to be a game-changer for the Italian club thanks to his impressive dribbling, explosive acceleration, and direct style of play. However, Lecce's hesitation in finalizing the transfer risks opening the door for rival suitors.

According to TransferFeed, English Championship side Derby County are strongly interested in Otele and have already opened talks with Basel regarding a potential deal.
Valued at around €5 million by Basel, the Nigerian international represents a cost-effective option for a Championship club. It remains to be seen whether Derby will pursue a permanent transfer or a loan arrangement.
Regardless of the structure, the Rams will need to move quickly in negotiations. Alongside Lecce, Birmingham City and Frosinone are also monitoring the five-cap Super Eagles star. Furthermore, with the transfer window closing at the beginning of next month, time is running out to secure reinforcements.
Derby County have been absent from the Premier League since 2008, bouncing between the Championship and League One in the years since. Last season, they finished 8th in the Championship, missing out on a playoff spot by just four points.
