Several Nigerian celebrities came together on June 10, 2026, to honor the late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo at a Service of Songs held in Lagos.
Despite heavy rainfall in the city, many friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers turned up to pay their final respects to the actor. Guests wore white outfits as a symbol of peace and to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved movie star.
Among those in attendance were IK Ogbonna, Funke Akindele, Williams Uchemba, Shaffy Bello, Kunle Remi, Bam Bam, Boma, Mike Godson, Enioluwa, Dayo Amusa, Nancy Isime, Moses Bliss, Femi Branch, Ruth Kadiri, Ini Edo, Yomi Casual, AY Makun, Emoney, Kcee, Ebuka, and many others.
The event was filled with touching tributes from people who knew Alex personally and those who admired him from afar. BBNaija Season 10 housemate Kaybobo shared an emotional message, revealing that although he never met Alex Ekubo, he grew up watching him on television and greatly admired his work.
“I didn’t know Alex personally, but I grew up watching him on TV and admired him. I had a lot of respect for him,” Kaybobo said.
Born Alex Ekubo-Okwaraeke in Port Harcourt, Alex became one of Nollywood’s most popular actors. He won the hearts of audiences across Nigeria and Africa with his charm, talent, and memorable performances.
Throughout his career, he starred in several successful productions, including Afamefuna, Hire a Woman, A Sunday Affair, The Bling Lagosians, Weekend Getaway and the music video for Johnny. Whether playing a romantic lead, a struggling young man, or a character fighting for social change, Alex brought passion and authenticity to every role.
Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after a long battle with cancer. His death was a huge loss to Nollywood and the entertainment industry.
Friends, colleagues, and fans remembered him not only as an outstanding actor but also as a kind-hearted person who brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.
