Many Nigerian entertainers have gone beyond music, movies, and comedy to serve in important government roles. Recently, Davido was appointed Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund. This move shows the goal is to develop the sports system in Osun State. Onyeka Onwenu
Onyeka Onwenu, a veteran singer, actress, and humanitarian, Onyeka Onwenu was appointed Chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture by former Governor Ikedi Ohakim. On September 16, 2013, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan appointed her as the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development. During her tenure, Onyeka Onwenu was recognized for using her influence and experience to advance women’s issues effectively. She worked on raising awareness about gender-based violence, promoting women’s entrepreneurship, and supporting policies that enhance women’s roles in society.
Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD)
Before joining public service, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) was one of Nollywood’s most loved actors, starring in many famous films in the 1990s and 2000s and even till now. Known for his charm and acting skills, he became a top figure in Nigerian movies. Mofe-Damijo was appointed as Special Adviser of Culture and Tourism to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in 2008, then He later served as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State from 2009 to 2015. In this role, RMD worked to protect and promote the state’s culture. He started programs to showcase Delta State’s festivals and tourist spots, helping the local tourism industry grow.
Desmond Elliot
Desmond Elliot is a well-known Nollywood actor famous for his roles in movies like Reloaded, The Man of God, and Champagne. In 2015, he shifted from acting to politics when he was elected to represent Surulere in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Jumabee
From Kogi State, singer Jumabee was appointed Special Assistant on Entertainment in 2021 by Governor Yahaya Bello. Funke Adesiyan, a Nollywood actress with political experience, was appointed Personal Assistant on Domestic and Social Events to former First Lady Aisha Buhari in October 2019. President Muhammadu Buhari approved her appointment. In this role, Funke planned and managed important social and cultural events for the First Lady’s office. Seyi Law
Seyi Law, a well-known comedian famous for his humor, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment and Tourism in Ondo State in July 2024.
