The Nigerian entertainment community is still mourning the loss of Oluwanisola ‘Ayomeekun’ Omobolanle, who passed away on September 2 after a brief illness. His untimely death shocked many, prompting fans to take to social media to express their grief and condolences.
But who exactly was Ayomeekun beyond being the son of prominent Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola? He was a 24-year-old musician signed to Fortuneflip Entertainment since 2022 and was beginning to establish himself in the industry.
Nollywood Heritage: Ayomeekun was born into a family of stars
Born on October 14, 2000, Oluwanisola Oluwasinaayomi Ayomikun Ogunmola was the only child of Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola and her husband, veteran comic actor Sunday “Papi Luwe” Omobolanle. His maternal grandfather was the late veteran actor Kola Ogunmola.
A rising Afrofusion star who began his music career in 2011
In an interview with HipTV, he shared, “I grew up around music but started my musical journey professionally in 2011, when I wrote my first song titled ‘Fake Love.’ Since then, I’ve always been pushing and working.“
Known for his songs like “Butter My Bread” and “Celebramos,” Ayomeekun’s music blended Afrobeats and hip-hop, creating a catchy sound that resonated with his growing fanbase. His last song, “Abena,” was released in February 2025.
Ayomeekun drew inspiration from various artists, including K1 De Ultimate, Ebenezer Obey, and Bob Marley. He also looked up to contemporary musicians like Oxlade, Joeboy, and Davido, which influenced him to pursue his musical career. He defined his genre as Afrofusion.
With nearly 14,000 followers on Instagram, Ayomeekun had built a solid fanbase that regularly left admiring comments and words of encouragement on his posts. Following his passing, the tone of these comments shifted from celebratory to mournful. One commenter expressed, “I still can’t believe my ears
