World-famous Afrobeats star and four-time GRAMMY nominee Davido has officially joined the Recording Academy as a voting member, making him eligible to vote in the 2026 GRAMMYs, whose voting begins in less than two weeks.

In a video shared by the Recording Academy on its official Instagram page on Tuesday, Davido and other musicians expressed their excitement at being selected.

“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard and participating in the GRAMMY award process is a game changer,” he said. “I’ve learned how voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on each award season. I’m honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community and I look forward to voting.”

This move is significant because it highlights the growing global recognition of Nigerian music. With Davido on the committee, it shows that local artists are trusted to have a say in one of the world’s biggest music awards.

It places Davido, and by extension Afrobeats, on the same stage as top international artists when it comes to award decisions.

Comments under the video are full of encouragement and admiration, with many fans predicting that he might finally win a GRAMMY.
