Today marks the 61st birthday of Mosunmola “Mo” Abudu, media mogul, founder of EbonyLife, and one of the most influential women in global entertainment. Over the past two decades, she has built a vast media empire that includes EbonyLife Films, EbonyLife TV, EbonyLife Studios, EbonyLife Place, and the EbonyLife Creative Academy.

Her journey began with Moments with Mo, Africa’s first-ever syndicated talk show, which paved the way for EbonyLife TV in 2013 and EbonyLife Films in 2014. Under the EbonyLife Group, she has consistently championed a more favorable narrative about Africa, creating a powerhouse that now spans television, film, and lifestyle. EbonyLife Place, Nigeria’s first luxury entertainment resort, is part of that vision.

Her foray into filmmaking has produced some of Nigeria’s most notable titles, including Fifty, The Wedding Party 1 & 2, Ã’lòtÅ«ré, Blood Sisters, and the recently released Baby Farm. Beyond that, she has partnered with Netflix, BBC Studios, Sony, and even the Lagos State Government, continually pushing Nigerian content onto the global stage.

Her work has earned international attention, with coverage from CNN, BBC, and The New York Times. In 2024, she was named Businesswoman of the Year at the prestigious Forbes Africa Women’s Awards, and in April 2025, she was listed on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People.

At 61, Abudu shows no signs of slowing down. With projects like the historical series Queen Nzinga and the futuristic crime drama Project 2099 in development, she continues to elevate African storytelling and inspire a new generation of creatives.

Here’s to Mo Abudu at 61, a visionary whose work continues to be an inspiration and open doors for African storytelling.
