Watch: Xabi Alonso turns provider as Boniface sharpens shooting boots before Super Eagles duty

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was spotted in training with Bayer Leverkusen, fine-tuning his finishing with the help of his manager, Xabi Alonso, before heading out for international duty with Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a training session captured on video and shared on Bayer Leverkusen’s social media pages, Alonso turned playmaker to deliver a pinpoint cross that Boniface expertly nodded into the net.

Boniface is not a player who frequently scores from set pieces or headers, but this exercise will help him sharpen his shooting skills.

Despite picking up an injury that sidelined him for a few months, Boniface has been in impressive form for Leverkusen, scoring 10 goals in 22 matches and playing a key role in their Bundesliga title charge.

However, his goal-scoring record for Nigeria tells a different story, as he has managed just one goal—in a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia—in 11 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Still, with his sharpness in front of goal, he will be a vital asset for Nigeria as they prepare for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

The Super Eagles, currently struggling in their qualification campaign, will be hoping Boniface can replicate his club form on the international stage.

The 24-year-old has joined up with the Super Eagles squad as they aim to secure maximum points in Kigali to boost their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
