Zayn Malik honored his late former bandmate Liam Payne with an emotional tribute during his concert in Liam’s hometown of Wolverhampton on Friday night. As he performed at the University of Wolverhampton, Zayn addressed the crowd, expressing his hopes that Liam was watching over the moment.
“I hope you’re seeing this. We’re in your hometown tonight, Wolverhampton. This is for you, Liam,” Zayn said, touching the hearts of the audience.
During his “Stairway To The Sky” tour, Zayn has made it a point to dedicate part of his show to Liam. As he performed, a heartfelt message appeared on the screen: “Liam Payne 1993-2024. Love you bro.” He later told the crowd, “I’ve been doing something, at the end of the show, every night, and it’s been dedicated to my brother Liam Payne. Rest in peace.”
Zayn and Liam, who rose to fame together as part of One Direction, had a complicated relationship over the years. Despite some public tensions, including an infamous altercation during their time in the band, Zayn made sure to pay his respects to Liam at his funeral, alongside the other One Direction members.
The tribute comes amid ongoing investigations into Liam’s tragic passing. Prosecutors are pursuing charges against three individuals connected to his death, alleging they supplied him with drugs. In particular, Liam’s close friend Roger Nores is facing accusations of abandonment.
TMZ had obtained official documents that reveal details of Liam’s behavior in the lead-up to his death. According to the evidence, Liam’s actions were heavily influenced by drugs and alcohol. On the day he died, the hotel staff had removed him from the lobby after an incident but later found him attempting to escape from the balcony, leading to a fatal fall.
The hotel is facing criticism for leaving Liam alone in his room after staff expressed concerns about his well-being, with one employee even calling 911, fearing he might harm himself.
