“Should give us confidence” – Super Eagles striker delighted with Rangers’ crucial away point at Olympiacos

Super Eagles and Rangers striker, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, was delighted to get on the scoresheet to help his team secure a vital away point against Olympiacos yesterday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 29-year-old went eight games without finding the back of the net before scoring against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup semi-final five days ago. He built on his confidence by scoring a brilliant goal against Olympiacos yesterday.

After cancelling out Ayoub El Kaabi’s opener at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki in Pireás, Greece, Dessers was delighted with the mentality his team showed on the night.

“In moments like this, it’s like you’re on a highway and things go by really fast, but I had a nice drop, let him slide, picked a corner and then put the ball there. It went like an instinct, so, I’m happy with the goal.

I’ve not been worrying about scoring in this competition. As a striker, you’ll score some chances and you’ll miss some, but you just have to keep going, and that was the case today.

It was a big team performance, and we had to fight until the end. We know Olympiakos are a very good team, so we can look at our performance and be really proud.

It was a very good performance in a special atmosphere. We made sure we’d take a point here today. With seven points against the team’s we’ve played, we can be very happy. We have some very big fixtures coming, but this should give us confidence, give us hope, and we can believe that qualification to the next round is possible,” the former Cremonese striker said in his post-game conference with Rangers.

Rangers are currently 10th on the UEFA Europa League group phase table, and still have to play against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the competition.
