“Something we need to address”- Rwanda coach Spittler reveals x-factor required to beat Nigeria

Rwanda coach Torsten Spittler has claimed that they could have won their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Rwanda welcomed Nigeria to the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Tuesday for their 2025 AFCON Qualifiers. The Super Eagles had the momentum going into the fixture as they had claimed a healthy 3-0 win over Benin in their first game of the series.

Also, Nigeria have the better players on paper. Nonetheless, before the game, Rwanda coach Spittler was quite bullish, as he maintained that his side had a good shot at getting a decent result.

Eventually, the game ended in a goalless draw. Nigeria were evidently the better team as they created the better chances had more attempts on goal. After the game, the Rwandan players were quite excited with the result.

Nonetheless, Spittler felt his team could have won if they had a very good focal point.

“We lack a top-level striker with Rwandan roots who can come in and make a real difference. That’s something we need to address moving forward,” Spittler said.

The next round of qualifiers will be in October, and Rwanda will play a double-header against Benin. Nigeria will play their final game of the qualifying series in November.
