Kendrick Lamar has been announced as the headline artist for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans.

The National Football League (NFL), Roc Nation, and Apple Music revealed on Sunday, September 8, that the Grammy-winning rapper will take centre stage at the Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025.

Lamar, renowned for his profound impact on rap and hip-hop, expressed his excitement for the upcoming performance. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why,” he said. “They got the right one.”

This will mark Lamar’s second appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show, but the first time he will be the main act.

In 2022, he performed alongside legends Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

Jay-Z, co-founder of Roc Nation, which co-produces the halftime show, praised Lamar’s influence and artistry.

Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” Jay-Z stated. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

Seth Dudowsky, the NFL’s head of music, also lauded Lamar’s contribution to music and culture.

“Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar,” Dudowsky said. “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”

Lamar has garnered considerable recognition since his debut album in 2012, reaching a milestone by becoming the first artist outside of classical and jazz genres to win a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album, ‘DAMN’.

Kendrick Lamar has frequently been in the news this year, particularly due to his feud with fellow rapper Drake earlier this year, which was marked by several diss tracks exchanged between them.
