Burna Boy’s influence on the African music scene continues to ascend as his latest single, “Higher,” achieves an unprecedented milestone, becoming the most streamed song in its debut week on Spotify Nigeria.

Dropped on June 27, 2024, “Higher” has struck a powerful chord with listeners, catapulting it straight into the record books.

The single garnered a remarkable 2.3 million streams in its first week, outpacing the previous record set by Rema and Shallipopi’s 2024 hit “Benin Boys,” which had 2.1 million streams.

This monumental achievement follows “Higher” breaking the record for the biggest opening day streams for a solo song by an African artist on Spotify. The song is a heartfelt homage to Burna Boy’s roots in Port Harcourt, weaving themes of gratitude and introspection amidst his soaring success. Known for his distinctive style and unrivaled musical talent, the African Giant continues to reshape global perceptions of African music.

The music video for “Higher” offers an emotional journey through Port Harcourt, featuring Burna Boy engaging in philanthropic efforts via his foundation, Project PROTECT. In collaboration with The R.E.A.C.H., he has extended support to Nigerian communities in need.

Adding to his impressive resume, Burna Boy electrified London Stadium with another sold-out performance, becoming the first African artist to achieve this feat at the 80,000-capacity venue twice.

Burna Boy also recently made waves on X (formerly known as Twitter), on July 6, 2024, asserting his creative independence. In his signature bold manner, he stated:

“Any name you see credited on my songs are only producers of the songs or Featured artists NOT writers. But for some reason, the western world considers producers as writers of the instrumentals and they just throw their names on there as writers. Nobody fit write for Odogwu.”

With “Higher” setting new records and his London concert further cementing his legacy, Burna Boy continues to prove why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the global music landscape.
