How we will defeat Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic – Finidi George

Super Eagles new coach Finidi George has reflected on Nigeria’s recent encounter against South Africa, emphasizing the lessons learned will be crucial in defeating Benin Republic, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria suffered their third 1-1 draw in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, further denting their hopes of securing a World Cup ticket.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to play Benin Republic, who are led by former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr. Rohr was dismissed by the then Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick.

According to the former Ajax star, Nigeria will approach the game with utmost seriousness as they seek their first three points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“We are going to approach the game with every seriousness. The match against South Africa, that is gone. We have learnt from it. We just have to get ourselves to have that fantastic second half that we had [against South Africa].If we can start that way tomorrow [now today], I think we have a chance.” Finidi said.

The Cheetahs of Benin secured a 1-0 victory against Rwanda last week, moving them to third place in the standings with four points.

They are eyeing a similar victory as they face Nigeria today at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, a familiar venue where Nigeria played three of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations games.
