The Nigeria international is still one of the most valuable players in the Italian top-flight
Following the latest update on renowned statistics site Transfermarkt, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is not valued at 110 million euros (approx. NGN110 billion), Soccernet.ng reports.
That figure is a drop of 10 million euros (NGN10 billion) from Osimhen’s estimated value of €120 million (NGN120 billion), which he attained in March.
At the time, Osimhen was the highest valued player in Italy, for Nigeria, for Africa, and among the top five in the world, as he fired home the goals that propelled Napoli to a first Scudetto win in more than three decades.
While the Nigerian striker remains the most valuable footballer on the continent, he has now been joined on the pinnacle of Italian football by Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, estimated to be worth €110 million.
Transfermarkt Area Manager Italy Jatin Dietl has explained why Osimhen’s value suffered a dip in the same month he was named the winner of the Africa Player of the Year award.
Dietl admits Osimhen is still an influential figure for Napoli but suggests that the former Lille man’s struggle with injuries affected his value.
“Osimhen still struggles with injuries and wasn’t able to reach the level that he displayed last season,” Dietl said.
“Although he does produce, he just isn’t as impactful for his team as he was during the championship season.”
Osimhen has scored seven goals and provided two assists this season.
The 24-year-old will be the key man for Nigeria as the Super Eagles aim to become African champions for the fourth time at the continental championships in January.
