Victor Boniface and Florian Wirtz have linked up well this season, and their brilliance has been key to Bayer Leverkusen’s success this season
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has praised his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz for his consistency at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface has been superb for Bayer Leverkusen since he joined the club from Royale Union SG in a deal worth €20.5 million last summer. The Nigerian attacker has registered 15 goals and eight assists in 22 appearances.
He has also formed a strong partnership with German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. Both players have a combined 25-goal contributions in the Bundesliga.
Both players were at it again on Sunday in Die Werkself’s 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Wirtz assisted Boniface’s first goal to give Bayer Leverkusen the lead.
Then, in the second half, the Nigerian striker turned provider, setting up Wirtz for Bayer Leverkusen’s third after Jeremie Frimpong scored the second minutes before.
After the game, Boniface was impressed by his 20-year-old teammate, and he had some nice words for him.
“I’m really happy that I get to play together with Flo[Wirtz]. He has a real special talent, and that helps us all with our game,” Boniface said per Bayer Leverkusen’s X page.
Wirtz has already caught the eyes of some of the top clubs in Europe. Manchester City are keeping tabs on him as a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne.
The German youngster is currently valued at €100 million per Transfermarkt.
