Saudi King Cup: ex-Super Eagles star Ighalo nets again for Al Wehda

Odion Ighalo has started the season in impressive form for Saudi Arabian club Al Wehda, scoring 6 goals in all competitions.

Ex-Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has continued his rich vein of form by scoring a goal to help Al Wehda claim a 2-0 victory over Al Orubah in the Saudi Arabia King Cup round of 32 fixture on Wednesday, Soccenet.ng reports.

The 34-year-old has started the season in impressive form, with 6 goals in 6 appearances for the Knights of Mecca.

After getting on the scoresheet on Wednesday, Ighalo has now scored in three consecutive games for his club.

Ighalo opened the scoring with 14 minutes to play in the contest before midfielder Nawaf Al Azizi doubled Al Wehda’s advantage in the 89th minute to ensure a safe passage to the Round of 16 for the Mecca-based club.

 

Following their victory, Al Wehda have been given an away fixture against Al Taawon in the next round which will be played on October 30.

Meanwhile, in the new Saudi Arabia Professional League season, the Nigerian International has netted 5 goals from his first 5 appearances.

His good start to the season has contributed to his club’s impressive 7th position on the table with 12 points after 7 rounds of matches.

He has now scored 57 goals in the league altogether for Al Shabab, Al Hilal, and Al Wehda since he moved to the country from Manchester United in 2021.

The 34-year-old has 16 goals in 37 games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria before calling it quits after helping his country claim a bronze medal at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Eygpt.
