Alex Iwobi: Former Everton and Watford manager backs Super Eagles star to be a hit at Fulham

The Nigeria international is only a few weeks into his days at Craven Cottage

Fulham manager Marco Silva is putting his faith in new signing Alex Iwobi to become a pivotal player for the team following his impressive performance in the EFL Cup third-round clash against Norwich City, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iwobi, the Nigerian international, played a crucial role in Fulham’s 2-1 victory, setting up Carlos Vinicius for the opening goal and adding one himself in the second half.

The goal is Iwobi’s first for Fulham since his summer transfer from Everton, where he had previously clinched the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Still, the Super Eagles playmaker had been perceived to have had a somewhat lackluster stint at Goodison Park which some attributed to Everton’s frequent managerial changes.

Silva, who lured Iwobi away from Arsenal to join Everton back in 2019 during his managerial tenure at Everton, expressed his confidence in the player’s potential to shine at Craven Cottage.

“He’s a player that I know can add for us in many different positions,” Silva stated, as per London News Online, emphasizing his familiarity with Iwobi’s abilities.

“I know him really well; I was responsible for signing him at Everton. His quality and his energy are going to be important for us.”

While Iwobi had contributed to 40 goals in 149 appearances during his time with Arsenal, his performance at Everton was more modest, with only nine goals and 16 assists in 140 games across all competitions.
