Former Golden Eaglets forward extends contract with Pyunik Yerevan

Yusuf Otubanjo scored 17 goals last season in the Armenian topflight joint-top scorer

Nigeria’s former U-17 forward, Yusuf Olaitan Otubanjo, has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension by Armenian club Pyunik Yerevan,Soccernet.ng reports.

The 30-year-old was impressive last season for his club, scoring 17 goals to emerge as the league joint-top scorer.

He had spent three seasons at Ararat-Armenia before joining Pyunik Yerevan last summer.

During his time with Ararat-Armenia, he showcased his goalscoring talents by netting 28 goals in 77 appearances, which brought the interest of Pyunik Yerevan.

His football journey began with Emmanuel Amunike Acadamy in 2009, before he later played for Nigerian clubs like Julius Berger, Gateway, and Crown FC. He left the country in 2011 to join Athletico Madrid, reserve team.

He later went on to play for RB Salzburg, FC Pashing, Blau-WeiB Linz, MSk Zilina, Rheindorf Altach, Lask, and Ararat-Armenia before joining Pyunik last year.

Announcing the striker’s extension on their website, the club wrote

We are happy to announce that Yusuf Otubanjo and Pyunik FC have extended their contract until 2025.

The Nigerian footballer moved to our team n the summer of 2022 from Ararat-Armenia.

Otubanjo while reacting to his contract extension with the club said

It’s a great feeling to continue the journey with Pyunik. Do you remember what success we achieved last season? It was possible to achieve all that because we were united, from fans to footballers and coaches. And the new season is ahead and we call you to be by our side because thanks to you we can achieve even more.

The striker was part of the Nigeria U-17 squad that finished second in the 2009 U17 World Cup hosted on home soil.
