Head coach of the Flying Eagles, Ladan Isah Bosso, has expressed his satisfaction with his team’s first victory against the Dominican Republic, soccernet.ng understands.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Bronze medalist established their presence in the 23rd edition of the international men’s youth football championship contest in Argentina by coming from behind to defeat Walter Benitez’s men with a final score of 2 goals to 1.
The 55-year-old revealed after the match that some errors were committed by his boys during the game but claimed that he was satisfied with the result of the tie.
At the Mendoza Stadium, the tournament’s newcomers, Dominican Republic, took the lead from the spot in the 23rd minutes, after Benjamin Federick was flagged for a foul on Guillermo De Peno after a recheck by the Video Assistant Referee.
The captain, donning the number 10 jersey for the Dominican Republic U-20 team, Edison Azcona, fire home his nation’s maiden strike.
The two-time U-20 World Cup runners-up quickly equalised when goalkeeper Xavier Valdez missed a long throw that De Peno unintentionally diverted into his own net.
After the interval, Nigeria made a strong effort to get the upper hand, and they succeeded when Samson Lawal capitalised on a shoddy backpass from Israel Boatwright to fire past Valdez.
Bosso, speaking after the game, praised his team’s coordination from the Defence to the attacker and revealed that the team would work on it in the next game.
“Yeah, we have seen it. And play against the FIFA U-20 debutants. We have seen what they can do and we were able to subdue them
“One of the good things about the team [Flying Eagles] is that their organization is perfect from the defence to the midfield and then the attack.
“We missed so many chances, and we need to work on those chances before the next match,” he said.
Nigeria is slated to face Italy on Wednesday, and a win against the young Azzurri would take them a step into the next round of the tournament.
