Murphy Afolabi, one of Nollywood’s most prominent actors and producers, is dead.
Although details of his death are still sketchy, some of his colleagues in the industry confirmed his demise on Sunday, May 14, 2023, nine days after his 49th birthday.
On May 5, 2023, Afolabi shared a series of photos on his Instagram to celebrate his 49th birthday.
He captioned the post: “Dear God, on this day which is my birthday, I ask for your blessings and grace. May I have your strength and courage to continue to serve you faithfully. Almighty God, I come to you on this day and ask for your favour. May you grant me wisdom and knowledge to do your will and to live a righteous life. HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO ME.”
Some of Afolabi’s colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry have taken to social media to mourn his death.
Bolaji ‘Mr Latin’ Amusan, Babatunde Bernard Tayo aka Baba Tee, Damola Olatunji, among others have paid tributes to the late actor.
“Rest well soldier. This life is a gamble sha,” Baba Tee wrote on Instagram. “To the family of Sir Murphy accept my condolences.”
Saidi Balogun also wrote: “So sad to say goodbye to you at this time, but we can’t question God… goodnight Murphy Afolabi, REST IN PERFECT PEACE.”
