The road to crowning the ultimate Nigerian Idol has officially started as all 29 contenders who made it through from auditions to theatre week, duet performances, and now through the solo week are on the hot seats preparing to become this season’s Idol.Nigerian Idol Constance

Nigerian Idol’s ConstanceLike it is every year, the contestants’ fate lies in their solo performances, but unlike the previous year, the judges made it clear that it’s strictly going to be top 10, not 12 contestants battling it out at the live shows.

Starting out the solo performance stage was Savy Henry with his performance of the song Fem by Davido. He delivered well, going out of his comfort zone and doing the best he could. With good comments from the judges, Savvy Henry seems to have a promising spot on the final lineup.

With one spot gone and nine more left, 28 other contestants took to the stage in their attempts to dazzle the judges with their performances and secure their place in the next round.

Next up was Constance, the 17-year-old singer and the youngest in this year’s competition. Although the judges mentioned that the lyrics were not appropriate for her age, she did a great job at wowing them with her performance of Ariana Grande’s Positions. She got the second spot in the live shows.

Up next were Arite, Akinwande, Amaka, and Sapphire Whinnas, who all came on at separate times to perform their selected songs, but it looks like they didn’t bring their A-games and unfortunately weren’t lucky to move on to the next stage.

Precious Mac, who is trying to carry on with her family legacy on Nigerian Idol as her sister had previously been on the show, performed Ayo by Simi. Despite the pressure of performing a judge’s song, she gave an outstanding performance that got her a spot in the top ten.

Moving forward, we had Mina and Eloehi. Sadly, after their respective performances, it was the end of the road for them. Let’s not forget that Mina came to the competition with his twin brother, who didn’t make it through theatre week. Although he thought he could go further for both of them, his performance was not enough to take him to the next round.

Netng ran a Twitter poll asking Nigerian Idol viewers who they would have loved to see in the top 10 among the disqualified contestants, and Mina emerged top with 55% of total votes. Akinwande followed with 17% of votes.

Victory came with his A-game as he performed ‘No Shaking’ by 2face. It was not an easy song to perform, but it definitely earned him a spot in the live shows.

Soultunes, Sir Adam, Lawrence, and Busayo didn’t make it to the next round. However, Ose Daniel, Goodness, Reigny, and Quest performed beyond expectations as they made their way to the live shows.

With more tension going up the scale for Smart Lily and Chisom to know their fate after their performance, Chisom finally made it through. He had previously auditioned last year but didn’t pull through to be among the top 12 contestants.

The best of the best has finally been chosen, it’s now up to fans of these top 10 contestants to get ready to keep their favourites in the game with their votes. The final ten are Savy Henry, Constance, Precious Mac, Quest, Abraham, Reigny, Goodness, Victory, Ose Daniel, and Chisom.
