If, like me, you’re always thinking about the activities to engage in, tune into or attend to make the most of your time off, well, you’re in for a treat this weekend!
We are right in the middle of a four-day weekend, and we need to make the most of every second of it. So, whether you’re looking for style inspirations, looking to gain business knowledge through workshops or looking to simply relax with good vibes and good music, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Here are five activities to look forward to this weekend.
Nigerian Idol
There is nothing better than a grass-to-grace story, especially when there are golden vocals to back it up. Yes, we are suckers for a good tear-jerking reality talent show.
Popular reality TV show, Nigerian Idol, is finally back. Following the online auditions, the singing competition will return to our screens on Sunday, April 23, 2023. And there is a lot we are curious about.
The gang – Simi and D’Banj (returning for a second season); and Obi Asika and host, IK Osakioduwa (returning for a third time) – is back. But will the contestants hold us to ransom this time? Will we find our Simi 2.0, or find someone who will give Johnny Drille a run for his money (especially since Drille seems to be in girlfriend mode at the moment)? What is going to hook us this season?
Well, we’ll find out soon enough. But in the meantime, I’ve gotten my box of tissues ready, and I’m going to pretend I can sing as well as any of them from my couch!
So grab your friends and family, get your snacks and drinks ready, and settle in for the premiere.
Anticipation score:
2. Davido’s Timeless Concert
In March, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, one of Africa’s biggest stars, announced three special album shows in celebration of his Timeless album.
Tagged “A Timeless Night with Davido”, the first two shows in New York and London were nothing short of sensational, leaving fans hungry for more. And on Sunday, April 23, Lagos may be on its way to witnessing what some have touted as the greatest concert of the year.
I can already picture myself singing along to “Unavailable” and “No Competition” at Tafawa Balewa Square, and then watch others scream until their voices go hoarse. I am not going, but you get what I mean…

3. The Fashion Conversations
Build your career! While concerts and TV shows are great, career-building can be quite fulfilling, and it leads to securing the bag. What’s better than making money?
Nigerian fashion icon and creative director, Mai Atafo, will host the second edition of his popular ‘Fashion Conversations’ – a mentorship session for young fashion enthusiasts and creatives – in Abuja this Sunday as well. Last month in Lagos, 40 young Nigerians got to sit with the designer to learn about commercialisation in Africa’s rapidly growing fashion industry.
From the looks of it, there was a lot to learn, because Nigerians signed up for the Abuja session in droves! See, sometimes, build your career! Mentees will gain insights from Atafo’s two-decade-long experience, as he shares invaluable insights that will take their knowledge of fashion to the next level.
The Macallan-sponsored mentorship session will also feature the luxurious backdrop and ambience of The Macallan’s ultra-premium whisky bottles, adding an extra layer of luxury to this already unforgettable experience.

4.Tiger Uncage Experience (TUX)
If you love expressing your rhythm through different artistic means while enjoying a night of fun, thrills and music, the Tiger Uncage Experience (TUX) will hold this Friday, April 22, 2023.
Some of the country’s coolest artistes, Runtown, Blaqbonez, DJ Grandy, Fave, Karlo, MIA, MXM and Odumodu Blvck will perform live at the Balmoral Hall, Opebi, Lagos.
Guests will also have the opportunity to indulge in delicious street food and experience the vibrant fashion scene and amazing pieces by local artists.
It would be perfect to soak up the summer heat and have a memorable time.

5. Lagos Fashion Week: Woven Threads
Another fashion event! Lagos Fashion Week – Woven Threads aims to celebrate the ingenuity and resilience of African fashion designers while emphasising the importance of sustainability and waste reduction in the industry.
Holding at 32D Thompson Avenue, Ikoyi, from April 21 – 23, 2023, the showcase seeks to facilitate conversations with all stakeholders across fashion’s value chains centred around responsible production and consumption.
If you’re interested in eco-friendly fashion choices and want to learn more about preserving our climate, this event is for you.
